The new worlds largest wind tunnel Fly-In is scheduled to open Friday, December 18th 2015. The tunnel is located in Liege, Belgium and now holds the record for largest diameter vertical wind tunnel world wide. The tunnel is a Strojirna Litvinov 17 ft (5.2 m) model. While this tunnel is the first of this size, there are 4 other similarly sized wind tunnels currently under construction across Europe. You can see that list here.

Previous to Fly-In, both iFLY Singapore and Inflight Dubai featured a 16.5 ft (5.03m) flight chamber which from 2011 until now held the record for largest wind tunnel.

The History of the Worlds Largest Wind Tunnel

Based on the diameter of the flight chamber, here is the timeline for the record breaking worlds largest vertical wind tunnels:

12 ft (3.7 m) – 1982 – Vegas Indoor Skydiving
14 ft (4.3 m) – 2002 – Aerokart
16.4 ft (5 m) – 2005 – Bodyflight Bedford
16.5 ft (5.03 m) – 2011 – iFLY Singapore
17 ft (5.2 m) – 2015 – Fly-In

We are excited to see the possibilities that this new space will bring for indoor skydiving and bodyflight training and competition!
