Take a Tour of the New WindoBona Madrid Facility
[the_ad_placement id=”article-above-content-mobile-only”]
On the first of the month, the WindoBona brand of indoor skydiving venue opened their second location in Madrid, Spain. This location follows their first tunnel in Vienna which opened in September of 2015. Both tunnels are Indoor Skydiving Germany (ISG) 14 ft models. Lets take a look at the facility and some new innovations seen here first.
The New Facility
The project joins the first Madrid wind tunnel Madrid Fly as the second operational in the city. A 3rd Madrid tunnel from Hurricane Factory is scheduled for a 2017 opening. WindoBona Madrid is the 3rd publicly accessible wind tunnel in Spain with 2 more planned for opening in 2017.
The interior of the facility features a gorgeous design. Take a virtual tour right here:
Welcoming the First ISG Cooling System
Until this point, ISG wind tunnels have been situated in primarily moderate climates. This new location sits in a much hotter environment. WindoBona Madrid will be the first of it’s kind to include a cooling system. The system allows the airflow to be cooled during hotter months in order to provide a consistent wind temperature for flyers.
A press release from November 4th (updated Nov 22nd) provides more information:
ISG´s patent pending cooling system uses hollow aluminium profiled turning vanes as an heat exchanger. This avoids a traditional heat exchanger being placed in the air duct which would create additional energy costs by causing significant drag. For its actively cooled turning vanes, ISG uses a newly developed system of flooding the welded turning vanes with water, a system which allows to keep leakage risks and maintenance particularly low.
Boris Nebe, managing partner of ISG-Group: “After launching our first cooling systems, we are very happy to see that our cooling system works perfectly well and maintains the desired temperature at all circumstances, even at high freefly speeds.“
Future WindoBona Projects
This second opened project is one of 7 total projects currently announced by WindoBona. Other locations include Berlin, Hamburg and Milan. For a current list of the projects, see this page. The trend of entering new territory for ISG wind tunnels will continue. The Berlin location will be the first ISG tunnel to abandon the distinct 12 sided flat panel glass for a round flight chamber.
Thank you to WindoBona Madrid for providing all the facility images!
