iFLY Queenstown Overview
Attention adrenaline enthusiasts! Are you ready for an experience that will leave you feeling like you're flying? Well, with iFLY Queenstown you actually will be flying! Indoor skydiving is an exhilarating activity and a must-do for anyone seeking an adventure to remember.
What is iFLY Queenstown?
iFLY Queenstown is a $15 million, state-of-the-art indoor skydiving facility, boasting world-class equipment and expert instructors. This modern indoor skydiving facility was built by the well-known international iFLY brand (formerly known as SkyVenture) but is owned and operated by Kiwi company, iFLY Indoor Skydiving NZ.
iFLY Queenstown opened its doors to the public on August 16th, 2018 and to this day, it's still the only indoor skydiving facility in New Zealand!
Imagine the feeling of flying through the air, without the need for a plane or parachute. With iFLY Queenstown, you can experience the same thrill of skydiving but in a controlled, safe environment that simulates the real thing.
You'll enjoy spacious, modern facilities that are designed to provide maximum comfort and enjoyment. The wind tunnel features a 12-foot flight chamber, encased in glass so you can enjoy the 360-degree views as you fly. There's also a spacious lounge area with comfortable seating, where friends and family can watch you in action.
How does it work?
The tunnel has 2 fans at the top of the tunnel that pull air up and through the flight chamber where it then travels along and down before coming back up into the flight chamber again. This system provides a safe experience with a much smoother airflow and, due to the recirulating nature of the design, operation of the tunnel is not dependant on weather conditions outside.
iFLY Queenstown Location
iFLY Queenstown is located in the heart of Queenstown, right at the foot of the Ben Lomond Scenic Reserve, so there are plenty more activities for you to do in the surrounding area. The facility sits on a plot near the Skyline gondola terminal on upper Brecon St.
Is Indoor Skydiving Safe?
Safety is of utmost importance at iFLY. Before taking to the air, you'll receive a full briefing on all safety measures, including everything from flight gear to hand signals. All instructors at iFLY are highly trained and certified by the International Bodyflight Association (IBA), with years of experience guiding both novice and advanced fliers. You will be fitted with a helmet, goggles, and a flight suit, and you'll fly alongside one of the skilled instructors who will be there to teach you have to control your movements inside the tunnel.
Who Can Try Indoor Skydiving?
Indoor skydiving is a thrilling activity suitable for most people, but there are some age and health requirements you should be aware of:
- Anyone from 5 to 105 can participate.
- There is a maximum weight limit of 136 kg.
- Anyone over 117 kg should call and speak with iFLY staff before booking.
- If you suffer from a medical condition such as a heart condition or back problems, please consult with your physician before trying indoor skydiving.
- If you've had recent surgery or an injury, it's also recommended to check with your doctor before booking your flight.
What to Expect During iFLY Queenstown Experience
Your iFLY experience will begin with registration where you'll be asked to fill out a form and sign a waiver. Then, it's time to gear up! You'll be fitted with a jumpsuit, helmet, and goggles. After putting on your gear, you'll receive a safety briefing where you'll also learn the basics about controlling your body in freefall. During this time, the instructor will explain the proper use of hand signals, body positioning, and communication. Once the briefing is done, you'll step into the tunnel and let the fun begin!
The flight experience can be done individually or as a group. You'll get immersive, interactive, and personalized instruction from your instructor who will not only guide you but also teach you moves and tricks. During the flight, you'll have the sensation of free-falling, but you'll be completely safe. At the end of your flight, the instructor will help you land on your feet safely and guide you out of the tunnel.

To all those that claim any one specific tunnel sucks and isn't good, you need to work on your flight skills. There is not a single trick or flight style that I am unable to achieve in any tunnel I have flown in. Yes I have to change how I approach the skill but it purely depends on your ability and determination. If you can fly a smaller tunnel and slower speed, then you can fly anything. Being spoiled is not a good thing.Get outside your current skill level and stop blaming the tunnel.

An amazing experience for my 88 year old father. He can't stop telling people about his flight... The staff, every one of them, were fantastic, and really went out of their way to make it a memorable experience for him. If my Dad, an 88 year old can do it, most can. Highly recommended. Go on - give this a go while in Queenstown!

I think it’s about time Ifly has made its way to Queenstown, one of the most adventurous places in the world! I got to do this with a few friends and it was a lot more exciting and a bit more nerve racking than I had anticipated. Great activity to do on a rainy day or if you’re not keen to jump out of a plane! Also, just good fun for anyone. At first they take you up to get a feel for it, but they also let you go in with a professional who spins you up in the air... Very cool, and you feel like you’re going super fast but it’s all so well controlled by the instructor. Definitely something I’d recommend:)

Obviously nobody learned from building the tunnel on the Gold Coast. Too small for dynamic stuff and you get starved because it’s diffusing when you fly up. The door needs a cap because othereise the air is yoo disturbed. Leave your DEEM at home because all you can make is headstands in the net.

You spend $15 mil on a tunnel and it's a crappy 12r2. Not only is every 12r2 in the states failing right now your entire Instrcutor core has explained to you this tunnel is slow, small, and hard to fly in. It is only for first timers. This tunnel doesn't allow any type of really dynamic or static head down flying. What a waste.

We tried the iFly in union city, CA, USA last March 2016. The kids totally love it, it was worth the trip from Suisun city, CA. My daughter (she is 7 years old) rated the iFly experience as her most enjoyable experience in our US trip, together with Disneyland adventure. We will be in Queenstown in 2017 hope you guys are open by then. My kids would be delighted to renew their iFly experience. Kia Kaha!
