Also known by the tunnel design name 'L-1' this wind tunnel is a one of a kind design. The fan powering the tunnel sits in a tunnel far away from the flight chamber and blows air horizontally which is then redirected up into the vertical column. The tunnel is powered by a 3000 hp GE Electric motor.

The flight 'chamber' is completely open and sits in the middle of a large net which keeps flyers that fall out of the column safe. The column of air is powerful and flyers are able to fly very high above the net, although it takes special skill to be able to do so due to the obvious dangers of flying high above the net and falling out of the column of air. This tunnel was created by Harold C. Larsen who passed away in 1998.
