The beginning of 2019 started off with a bang with new tunnel openings across the globe. Notable among these new facilities is the 4th from Germany-based manufacturer Tunnel Technologies. This new location lands in Seoul, South Korea, making it the first location in all of Korea.

FlyStation Korea celebrated the new wind tunnel with a grand opening party in January. The party saw Korean celebrities and proflyer guests like Steve Braff, Scott Palmer, Leo Volkov & Máté Feith in attendance. The ceremony featured a combination of first time flyers and proflyer performances as highlighted in the opening video found below:

The opening of this facility is followed by the announcement of two additional tunnels coming to South Korea. One in Busan in 2020 and another in Jeju in 2021. A full listing of the projects in the country can be found here.

A Spotlight on Tunnel Technologies

The new machine is Tunnel Tech’s prime TT45 technology – a 14.8ft (4.5m) flight chamber design seen across a number of their current and future projects. The German built fans provide for consistent powerful airflow, which Tunnel Tech claims to be the fastest in the world at 330 km/h. The high potential power comes with an efficient energy profile – possibly one of the most efficient on the market.

Tunnel Tech CEO Mr Lisin explain: “We focused our efforts in the perfection of aerodynamic qualities resulting in minimum loss of energy through heat, vibration, and noise.”

As the flyers and attendees can attest to – TunnelTech announces record breaking noise level of only 55dB. This ultra-quiet sound profile is a result of perfected airflow loops, noise reduction of special composites used in the air-ducts. The team also focused on the qualities of the glass in flying chamber to minimize noise.

Tunnel Technologies has grown quickly since the opening of their first location in 2017. The company currently has 4 operational tunnels with 9 more projects on the horizon. See the complete list of projects here.
